programs offered by rmmi
Rmmi is dedicated to advancing the knowledge of those in its industry by offering Contractor and Supplier Certifications, along with Apprenticeship and Upgrade Training.
Contractor & Supplier Certification

Isn’t it time that you and your company were recognized for your professional expertise and achievement?
Would you invest in continuing education if it meant the difference between being prequalified to bid, or not?
Would you like to gain credibility with the architects & engineers
who design your work and the general contractors who control it?
In 1997, RMMI launched its masonry certification program, a series of intensive continuing education courses for masonry contractors and suppliers. 68 masonry professionals from 25 companies have successfully completed the program.
What does it take to get certified?
-
Commitment to excellence in service, workmanship, and business practices.
-
3 years experience in the construction industry/ 5 years masonry construction experience.
-
A Total of 14 days over 2 years to complete training. Depending on the certification level you seek, you must attend 6, 10, or all 12 program courses and complete an exam for each.
-
Once completed you will be amongst the best in the industry as a RMMI Certified masonry contractor, masonry professional, or masonry specialist.
-
Continuing education and re-certification every two years thereafter is required.
You do not have to belong to RMMI to be certified, but RMMI members will receive substantial tuition discounts.
What are the benefits of certification?
You’ll enhance your understanding of every aspect of masonry design, construction, marketing and management. You’ll gain the know-how to grow your business and increase your bottom-line. You’ll earn objective verification of your expertise. And last but not least, you’ll give your customers a valuable prequalification tool. RMMI will aggressively promote your achievement and request that architects, general contractors and municipalities specify the use of RMMI-certified professionals for their projects.
How good is this program?
All of these courses have been designed by RMMI members, who understand the range and depth of knowledge it takes to be a qualified player in this industry. RMMI certification courses are taught by leading professionals in the areas of construction, engineering, architecture, law, finance, management consulting, and human resources. Each participant in the certification program receives a valuable reference binder containing detailed course outlines, applicable technical information, and supplemental reading.
Who should attend?
Every principal / supervisory employee of every masonry contracting company within and outside of our organization. This program will also benefit owners and senior professionals (especially sales & marketing representatives) of masonry manufacturing companies, suppliers and distributors. The goal is simple: Let’s all get smarter about everything it takes to serve our customers better and run our businesses more profitably. And, let’s make sure we spread this knowledge to everyone working in the field where it will result in better workmanship and a safer work environment.

What’s the Masonry Apprenticeship Program all about?
-
This is an in-depth, competency-based training program, consisting of 450 hours of class & hands-on workshops and 6,000 hours of documented on-the-job training over a three-year period.
-
This program is managed for RMMI by the construction education professionals at the Construction Industry Training Council (CITC), under the auspices of the RMMI Masonry Trade Council.
-
Apprentices spend roughly half of their time in the classroom, the other half in the masonry lab.
-
Apprentices who successfully complete the entire program will become recognized journeymen in Colorado and most other U.S. states.
-
The curriculum has been developed by the Mason Contractors Association of America, and is in use in over three dozen masonry training programs throughout the country. Classes are offered in English.
-
The program is approved by the Colorado Department of Labor and the Office of Apprenticeship Training. After completing a brief interview with the Office of Apprenticeship Training, your apprentices will be eligible to work on government projects.
-
As the sponsoring educational institution for our program Emily Griffith Technical College will grant college credit to our apprentices who successfully pass their classes each semester.
OK, what are the details?
RMMI and the Construction Industry Training Council (CITC) are offering one masonry apprenticeship class this Fall:
Instructor is John Foley, a senior project manager and superintendent for M.A. Mortenson
Where will classes be held?
All classes will be held at the CITC Construction Training Center (adjacent to RMMI’s offices) at 646 Mariposa Street, Denver. This center is just blocks from the intersection of I-25 and 6th Ave. Free parking is available at the facility, and the nearest light rail station is just 6 blocks away.
How long is the semester?
The Fall Semester will begin the third week of August and conclude the second week of December. All classes will be held just one night per week (Thursday) for approx. 4 hours (3 p.m. – 7 p.m.). Note: There are two semesters per year (with a long break during the busy summer months), and it takes six semesters for an apprentice to complete the program.
How much does the apprenticeship program cost?
$710 per apprentice per semester**, a $15 non-refundable registration fee, plus books (approximately $150 per year). Typically, apprentices are sponsored by their employers for the full cost of tuition. You may elect, however, to deduct the cost of the class from your employee’s paychecks throughout the semester with the understanding that you will refund some or all of the money to him/her in return for perfect attendance or good grades. The Construction Industry Training Council will bill the contractor at the start of each semester. (**a tuition increase is anticipated for Fall 2014)
How does an apprentice register for the program?
Prospective apprentices should register for the program in person. Open registration will take place weekdays throughout the month of July between 9:00 am – 2:00 pm, at CITC’s office, 646 Mariposa Street, Denver.
If your student(s) cannot enroll during the open registration period, please call Cori at CITC (303-893-1500) to make other arrangements.
Registering apprentices DO NOT need to bring any money with them to registration; CITC will bill you, the employer, after the semester begins. You must bring your drivers license or other ID. Regsitration takes two hours and includes a math placement test that does not impact your ability to participate in the program but provides CITC with information regarding if you will require a tutor for the construction math portion of the program.
